The Therapeutic Use of Photographs: Phototherapy and Therapeutic Photography in a Digital Age. Prof. Del Loewenthal. Friday 2nd October 7-9pm Zoom
In recent years, there has been renewed interest in Phototherapy techniques. The field is considered especially relevant today, in an era of smartphones where a visual narrative of the client’s feelings, memories, reactions and thoughts exists as a series of photographs – potentially for individual and community therapeutic communication. Del Loewenthal will introduce the concepts and techniques of the major approaches to Phototherapy and Therapeutic Photography. Through discussions and case vignettes, how we can helpfully (and unhelpfully) use these techniques as adjuncts to our primary modalities will be explored with the help of photocards, ‘selfies’ / portraiture, photobooks and action plans, as well as by taking photographs. (Participants are asked to bring a photo that calls to them).
