The Language Continuum. Haran Rasalingam. January 18th 7-9pm. ZOOM

January 18, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

£20.00

The Language Continuum: language, dialects, status and stigma.

Language changes through time, space and context. It is an indicator of belonging and exclusion, advantage or disadvantage. More than simply a means of information transfer, language is a complex signifier of identity. We care about our language, we have opinions about correct and incorrect language, polite or offensive language, “appropriate” language. This presentation will look at the wonder of language variety, celebrate its diversity and explode a few myths along the way.

Haran Rasalingam ( he | him | his)  is an existential psychotherapist and coach. His academic and professional career has spanned Psychology and Technology, but also Language and Linguistics – a lifelong passion of his which has led to an insatiable appetite to delve deep into languages far and wide as well as the science and philosophy of language including sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, NLP, the language of influence and, as Wittgenstein would say, language bewitchment.

This is an online event, on Zoom. A link will be sent to attendees one day before the date.

A 2 hours Certificate of Attendance will be provided. The event will be partially recorded.
