5th book – ‘Crime and Punishment’ by Fyodor Dostoevsky
“Raskolnikov, a destitute and desperate former student, wanders through the slums of St Petersburg and commits a random murder without remorse or regret. He imagines himself to be a great man: acting for a higher purpose beyond conventional moral law. But as he embarks on a dangerous game of cat and mouse with a suspicious police investigator, Raskolnikov is pursued by the growing voice of his conscience and finds the noose of his own guilt tightening around his neck.”
“To go wrong in one’s own way is better than to go right in someone else’s.”
Fyodor Dostoevsky
Irene is a Regent’s University graduate and works as an existential psychotherapist in private practice. In 2021, she ran the Therapists Book Club which met monthly over zoom for a year. The idea of the reader’s club stemmed from a desire to create a space for therapists to meet socially with other
colleagues and start a conversation over a good book.
